Substitute values into simple linear equations

Question 2

If T = (−3 × s) + 4, find T when:

a s = 5 b s = −2 c s = \(\dfrac{2}{3}\).

Solution

a T   = −3 × 5 + 4
        = −15 + 4
        = −11.

b T   = −3 × −2 + 4
        = 6 + 4
        = 10.

c T   = −3 × \(\dfrac{2}{3}\) + 4
        = −2 + 4
        = 2.

Note: −3 x s can be written as −3s.
