"The AMSI Summer School is one of the big annual events in the Australian mathematics calendar.  Ninety-one students from across Australia attended the Summer School this year.  Eight honours-level courses in pure and applied mathematics and statistics were offered, in many cases courses that wouldn't be available at the students' home universities.  The students work very hard over the four weeks of the Summer School.  They benefit not only from attending lectures, but also from interacting with their peers and being part of a lively group of enthusiastic students from 18 different universities.  Intense academic work was complemented by enrichment lectures, social events, a careers afternoon, and other special events that were well attended."

Assoc. Prof. Finnur Larusson, 2011 Summer School Director

The Careers Afternoon – attended by CSIRO, DSTO, BoM and the ABS – enabled students to make contacts and explore careers available to them in the mathematical sciences.

Students said: “The AMSI Summer School was a wonderful experience to learn interesting mathematics in a fun environment, whilst making great friends.”

“The AMSI Summer School was an excellent learning and social experience.  I believe it has set me up perfectly with the knowledge and contacts to succeed in my PhD.”

"One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life."
