| Workshop on General Relativity and Geometric Analysis |
|
The workshop will bring together many of the leaders in the field of geometric analysis. This will strengthen existing ties and inspire new collaborations and will offer Australian students and young postdocs a fantastic opportunity to interact with world class researchers. Mathematical Relativity is one area which has benefited greatly from its interactions with geometric analysis, in particular through the work of Shing-Tung Yau and Richard Schoen, the Principal Speakers of the proposed workshop. Together with their colleagues and students (Huisken, Christodoulou, Andrews, Hassell, X-J. Wang, ....), their work has transformed our understanding of the physics and mathematics of gravitational energy and the structure of black holes. The techniques developed through this GR research are applicable across the entire spectrum of mathematics, wherever geometric differential equations arise, in subjects as diverse as epidemiology and the topology of the internet.
