The AMSI Research and Higher Education Program expands and improves the mathematical sciences research base in Australia. The program promotes collaboration between member institutions and with distinguished international researchers and gives students at member institutions networking opportunities and access to additional subjects and courses through the Institutes’ flagship events. Since its foundation in 2002 AMSI has provided more than $1 million in workshop sponsorship allocated through the Scientific Advisory Committee to AMSI Members. The AMSI workshop series has grown consistently to approximately 20 workshops per annum. AMSI also sponsors annual AMSI Lecturers and the Mahler Lecturer. AMSI conducts a wide-range of activities in support of the mathematical sciences in higher education. The Institute’s flagship programs Summer Schools, Graduate Schools, Vacation Research Scholarships, BioInfoSummer and AMSI Intern provide exciting opportunities for undergraduates, honours and postgraduate students. Funding from DEST enabled the establishment of the AMSI Access Grid Room (AGR) network. The AGR network facilitates distributed lectures, teaching and research. A national program of collaborative teaching of advanced mathematics at honours level at multiple remote sites is now established.
