Algorithms, Algebra and Analysis in Four Dimensions

Report now available.

Four-dimensional topology is an important branch of geometry and topology. Many important problems—as well as the decidability of these problems—are still open, and in recent decades the field has become a focus of international activity.

The University of Queensland, Brisbane
20–21 July 2010

The workshop brought together researchers in four-dimensional topology from around Australia, to foster interaction and collaboration in this area. Australia has international leaders in the field, such as Rubinstein (whose contributions to four-manifold theory span three decades), Hillman (author of a major book and numerous articles in the field), and Burton (recently awarded an ARC fellowship to work with Budney on computational four-dimensional topology).

The workshop stimulated interaction between researchers in the three key areas of algorithms, algebra and analysis, to bring about new collaborations to work on difficult problems that cannot be tackled from one viewpoint alone.
