Percentage discounts
Question 3
Zoe buys some bike gloves at the discounted price of $85.
If the gloves were originally $110, what was the percentage discount?
Round your answer to the nearest percentage.
Solution
The discount is $110 − $85 = $25.
The percentage discount = \(\dfrac{\text{the discount}}{\text{the original price}}\times100\%\)
= \(\dfrac{25}{110}\times100\%\)
= 22.72…
= 23% to the nearest percentage.
